GREGORY CRAIN/CF-L1 COACH
I started CrossFit when I was 14 years old. Before exercising, my fitness background was mainly composed of participation in sports like baseball and basketball. I had only planned on doing CrossFit for one summer, but as school rolled around, I realized that I was hooked, and I have been doing it ever since.
Throughout high school, I ran for the Denham Springs Cross Country team in the fall and trained at CrossFit Upshot through the summer. What I love about both of these sports is that there is a clearly defined goal that can only be achieved with great physical and mental fortitude and willpower. I am not motivated to do CrossFit primarily for the physical returns, but rather to experience the feelings of joy, excitement, and pride at completing a difficult task that I applied my entire self to.
Outside of the gym, I enjoy spending time with my girlfriend and family, playing pickup basketball with my buddies, working at Sunshine Pools, studying and reading, and watching thriller movies. I graduated from Denham Springs High School in 2023, and am attending Louisiana State University , where I plan to study Political Science and pursue a Juris Doctor degree. Some of my career aspirations include becoming a Policy Analyst, Litigation Attorney, or Injury Attorney.
For now, I am eager to use my CrossFit Level 1 Trainer’s license to enhance the pursuit of fitness of myself and all of our hardworking members at CrossFit Upshot

SHELBY LYLE/CF-L1 COACH
I began my CrossFit journey around a year and a half ago. Before CrossFit I played travel basketball and volleyball in high school. After my last basketball game my coach encouraged me to continue in a healthy lifestyle and told me to find a CrossFit gym. Hearing the word CrossFit intimidated me greatly because I thought it was only for big Olympic style athletes. With lots of courage I signed up for two free classes the next week. My first class at 5am had me absolutely hooked. It was very new and exciting way of fitness I had never done before. I realized that CrossFit is for anyone who wants to work hard and grow in an active lifestyle. After my two classes I immediately signed up to be a full time member. Little did I know that CrossFit and the people there would become my new love and family.
When I am not in the gym I am working at Walk-Ons as a waitress, store manager at Kirkland’s or possibly attending class at LSU for secondary education in English. I love spending time with my boyfriend and cooking!
CrossFit has changed my life completely for the best! I have learned so much about my body and health. I’m so excited to be able to share with others what CrossFit has done for me!
